nah. behaviors and instincts are largely based in genetics. parents have far less power over the outcome of their children than they think. the best they can do is provide a stable, terror-free environment and see how things turn out.

It's both. Nature sets the bounds of your genetic potential, but you still need proper nurturing to reach that potential. On the other hand, malicious improper nurturing can drag you down, far from the heights you could otherwise reach, like what happened in the experiment where a baby White was raised with a baby chimp. They expected the chimp to be uplifted, but ended the experiment early after the White started acting like an animal.
