Knowing German efficiency I doubt that. Auschwitz was not just one but multiple camps, so what would A stand for? Auschwitz-Birkenau for instance would be AB logically.

But then again, they were prisoners. Prisoners meant to be deported after the war. Prisoners do get numbers assigned to them, but there were also transfers between camps depending on were more workers were needed, so assigning numbers with a letter representing a camp name makes no sense.

Besides, why not just do what most prisons do and write the numbers on the uniforms? Sure, the kikes would switch uniforms to avoid work. But the Germans don't appreciate such shenanigans and doing that just once is enough to get shot in Germany.
