Probably, truth is that you can opt out in most countries. It's just gonna cost a little bit of money to do that as you'll rely on yourself for everything, or a community of like minded. It's life on hard mode basically. Which is why most people choose to stay in the system, more or less. Others can't afford to opt out.

Honestly I'll point out that a lot of this is how pretty much every society has functioned. Most of it. European feudalism also was a fucking prison but it was even more obvious. If you were a peasant you were shackled to the local Duke's land. The purpose of your existence was to farm and hand over a percentage of the crop to the lords.

It wasn't 'really' slavery but it wasn't *not* slavery.
