The normal person sees a Rube Golberg device as a silly thing. Either a joke or a device designed to be convoluted because it is fun or entertaining. Others see it as a way to trick God.

'Oy vey, I'm not using electricity. I just knocked over the weight tied to a pulley which raises the bowl covering a light I turned on yesterday.'
