We took up the lowest position in the mainstream pecking order when we realized Hitler did nothing wrong. Expecting to be treated with fairness and dignity after that is unreasonable.
As "the lowest of the low", we are expected to be the embodiment of vice, despite the fact that only the strongest of mind and spirit have reached this place with us. You must have the dignity of objective virtue and strong principles to endure the accusations of subjective vice and ideological evil.
Those who consider conformity a virtue believe (their particular kind of) conformists are generally virtuous, because that's how they reassure their sense of self. But obedient conformists have no virtue at all. They rely on their relevant authority to be "virtuous", but they themselves are just blind followers.
