Technically it is real. The person with the most votes wins. Though here we witness the subversion of the American democracy in real time: the guy not sucking israel off is getting hardcore pressured by the zognald to get replaced. The pressure is financial support to Thomas's opposition.
The only reason it works is because Americans are people without ideology, and they just repeat what they've seen on TV or billboards. This is why whoever spends more on election wins.
