Like i said, single ethnicity and single cultural aspect. It could work if each county/city had it's own king. Then that king would never be too far away from the people, and never have enough defense to resist a lynch mob large enough. Dictatorships and democracies alike both works best in small scale.

Europe never needed America to hold them down. The issue with Nationalists in Europe is that they are divided in Language, Culture, Economy and Identity. What is best for Germany is not what's best for Spain. What's best for Italy is not what's best for Norway. There's no good reason for Europe to unite since it would require the dissolution of their Identity and Heritage.
