Bad for their eyes and their neck. These things are heavy, especially for a child. Long exposure to artificial light such as that from a screen fucks with your sleep too, blue light filters are useless, as all they do is to turn the screen yellow but keeps the brightness. Only thing that works is a reduction of backlight, and ironically there's practically no software available that can adjust that automatically depending on the amount of light in the room and then make the screen very dark in the evening.

As for the learning aspect, take some time to remember the good old days of a field trip. Think of your favorite one. What did you see... but more importantly, what did you hear, what was the smell, how was the weather. There's thousands of little details you all probably remember. These kids won't remember any of that as these fake "field trips" will only feature sound and visuals. It's be wiped from their brains before they have a test on the subject in a few hours.

The biggest point of field trips, to me, was the increased autonomy of being outside of a controlled environment.
