The lost fleet series is amazing if you enjoy "space navy" type fiction.

Red Rising for strong roman themes. It's "colorful" like a YA novel, but also absolutely brutal. Weird combo.

3 body problem and the sequels for epic scope, and interesting ideas (that one involves the military but is less focused on it). It's about humanity facing existential threats and the epic undertakings that humans might be capable of if we had no other choice.

The Forever war. Vietnam themes. Guys go to fight in a horrific war, but every time they come back, it's been hundreds of years on earth due to time dilation, and every time society is totally different in some weird way.

Poor Mans Fight. A simple but good "being a marine, but in space" type story.

Armor by John Steakly. There is a brutal quagmire of a war on the planet Banshee vs these huge ant creatures. The protagonist has a death wish, but a schizophrenic fragment of his personality he calls "the engine" propels him forward to fight on and on and inexplicably survive mission after mission. The theme is a juxtaposition between empathetic humanity and the harsh brutality of war. And whether both can exist within one man.

The honor Harrington series is pretty good at first.
