Here is the confusing part, though.

Wasn't Virgin Mary a virgin? This means that Joseph did not contribute seed to Mary? This means that the lineage of Joseph is irrelevant since his DNA is not passed on? Jesus is not of the lineage of Joseph. Perhaps we should trace the lineage of Mary, then?

This is where faith comes in. Also, Jesus needed to be 100% within the Mosaic Law to be able to redeem and fulfill it.
