Yeah I used to do this. The problem is if you answer their calls, your number gets marked as live and sold on to the next call center. Before long, you're getting dozens of calls per day. I don't have time to waste their time dozens of times per day, and if I happen to be expecting a call from an unknown number, I'll end up answering scam calls when I'm not intending to. Worse still, once you get on their "live number" lists, ingoring their calls doesn't work, since they seem to recognize that a voicemail menu indicates a live number. Blocking numbers doesn't work because they use dynamic spoofed numbers.
A word of advice to anyone who gets stuck in this loop and wants it to end: If you answer an unrecognized number and are sure it's a scammer, block it and report it to your carrier if you can, but more importantly, if you get a call from an unrecognized number, answer the call and IMMEDIATELY end the call. If you do it fast enough, the robocaller (or pajeet) won't even hear any sound from your end. This should result in your number being marked as not live. Avoid just dismissing or ignoring the call, since it will go to your voicemail, which means your number will still be marked as live. I've personally been doing this for a couple months now and the number of scam calls I receive has gone from 10 or more per day to no more than 1 per day, often times skipping days.
