Blood, from both mother and father, is everything. And the middle ages tried the "renouncing faith" business, and we know how well that worked

Conversos, that's what happened. And then the Spanish had to put on the entire Inquisition to try and clear them from the Church and even *still* they failed to free their country. Adolf has some great lines in MK about this exact subject.
