Sentience requires being alive and part of God's creation. No matter how complex the system, no non-living thing can possess the willpower needed to acheive sentience.

Autonomous is a good word for what they are.

AI is just very complex algorithm code, the same basic technology used to generate worlds in Minecraft, is the same used now in "AI" just far more developed, the only difference is that instead of creating a virtual space in a video game, it instead creates a picture, a paragraph, or sentences that get run through a text to speech program.

AI tech is no where near approaching even basic intelligence, it's just computer code that processes inputs into outputs.

We have. We've seen them for centuries, at least.

Can you think of a system that makes and implements decisions that no individual human can stop? If the human isn't in charge, and the system has it's own will, is that not the definition of "artificial" intelligence?

Any government, church, corporation, or organization that doesn't have a human calling the final shots is technically an AI. As for the results; see for yourself.
