It is an unfortunate feature of the human condition that good times create weak men. A nation of weak men will be easily tricked or coerced into accepting a less than favorable position in exchange for simple comfort. They will not be roused to action in the face of societal dispute or transgressions. They will remain cowardly and their weakness will only magnify as the generations progress.
We are in the situation we are in today mainly, I think, because of the humanists of the 20th century. The diligent among them were genuinely good people who genuinely cared about the state of humanity. Many of the great minds subscribed to certain positions involved in this philosophy and it ultimately seeped its way into the mainstream. And what was there to disagree with? That we should not conquer and enslave the colored masses in their own homelands? That war should be made obscene, or at least severely limited? That industrial medicine and surgery should be available and cheap?
The tenets and the prayers have led us to this age, where modern medicine keeps people alive decades longer than they should and nearly guarantees a healthy childhood. Where men do not know war or struggle. Where the colored masses are given more privilege than the sons of the pilgrims. Now we deal with overpopulation. Cowardly, effete and indolent men. Uppity invaders who have stolen our inheritance.
The good which had been sought in the centuries before us has lead us to this. Pandora's Box has been opened. In the quest to save humanity from strife, humanity as it has always been will perish. We will continue to proliferate our species until either the Earth or the logistics chain can no longer contain us. And then there will be a great die off. The moment electricity and food supply falters for a single instance a domino effect will begin. This modern delusion will abruptly end and 95% of humanity will starve to death.
I believe this will occur about 5 generations from now. By then the majority of humanity will *not* even be human. They will either be genetically altered to retardation or so obsessed with pleasure that patience, along with both logical and critical thought will be far gone from them. There is only one way to overcome this fate and that is via an exodus. Some call for a parallel society but this will be inadequate. The only way to ensure survival would be to live tucked away in some far flung corner of the World with a self sustained town and decent population.
Correct. Any commune comprised by American people on American soil is destined to fail. Paying taxes on the land will always tie the people to modernity and thus tempt them back to the comfort of modern living. It would take one harsh winter or one mild epidemic to drive half of them back into the arms of society.
This is not to mention stress put on the commune by the federal government or state.
The answer is that a group would have to organize in America, travel to a country with a government that is either unable or unwilling to project it's power over its frontiers and settle there. Countries like Brazil and Mongolia come to mind. It would be a grand adventure, probably destined to fail.
The Amish have it kind of figured out. Their luddite ways are weird given the amount of technology they eschew doesn't make complete sense.
