Wrong. Most of them would have been naive and gullible enough to believe Hitler would have done it. They'd praise him a lot, even if they'd say "that's not enough." At least that's what I'd have done, but at that time I would have missed the hindsight we have today, so I don't claim that I would have known better anyway.
But alas it turned out that indeed Hitler was not "edgy" enough. He should have used Sarin gas on the Eastern front, but only as a deterrent against the Russians. So the West couldn't have won against Germany alone, and if they'd started to use nukes, Hitler could have used Sarin gas in retaliation.
If I could go back in time, that's what I'd tell Hitler to do. To be less benevolent and naive.
