The image we now know as the universal recycling symbol was unveiled on the first-ever Earth Day in April of 1970.

Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network, founded in Canada in 1971 by a group of environmental activists.

Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) history dates back to 1971 when it was founded by four organisations from France, Sweden, the UK and the USA.

The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. It was a nationwide demonstration that brought together millions of people to demand action on environmental issues.
