Present day nerds are a cargo cult.
Old nerds were nerds because they actually liked scholarly subjects, like math, history, philosophy, English, science, ect.
Nerds now think they are nerds because they consoom product and get excited for next product.
In dnd, ooze monsters attack with pseudo limbs and there are dragons called psuedo dragons.
Present day "nerds" are pseudo intellectuals who only know how to consoom, they probably had terrible grades in school, unlike nerds from 40 or more years ago.
Also, present day nerds allow their communities to get infiltrated by trash that would have bullied them long ago, but now that "nerdism" is mainstream, they pretend to be nerds too.
Gamer girl whores are th' top infiltrators I think.
