Oh, I guarantee it, I would imagine AI bots were running around social media well before AI became publicly available. AI chatbots have been in development since like the 80s, its not new. What is new is the software being effecient enough to run on most computers, but I guarantee large corporations and intelligence agencies could afford to run what we have now 10 years ago.
