In her defense a bit, she's likely a conscript in the first place, she could have hidden but she was already spotted, that shack wasn't gonna do a damned bit of good, the houses have blown off roofs, and there isn't any running away from that.

So what else can you do? Either plead or pray.

The operator of the drone will end up in hell though. There is a certain level of unmatched inhumanity required to be a drone operator that is unparalleled in history. An artillery operator or a sailor on a ship providing gun support are able to disassociate and not even see what they're hitting. A gunship crewman or a pilot are still putting themselves in danger and don't really have the opportunity to respond to a surrender at all. A sniper puts himself at great risk and kills the target before they have thoughts. A drone operator though? Ted Bundy would have had an amazing career as one if he were born 40 years later. A career for psychopaths and sadists.

And it's true, it's almost impossible to surrender to a drone unless it is within reasonable distance to an enemy encampment and can guide you there somehow. It cannot disarm you, it cannot take you prisoner, in many cases a drone will have to kill you. It's like surrendering to an airstrike, except the person behind it can see you. Which is all the more reason why this job entails being a scorn of humanity. Drones should be banned from war.
