The recent deployment of 1500 troops to the southern border is also all for show. 1500 troops is nowhere near enough to secure a border that's 2000 miles long. Also, Trump did this in his first term, too, and it was all for show back then as well. Here's an interesting read from someone who had their son in the military back then, who was deployed to the southern border in Trump's first term:

He said that his son, and all the other military members, were barred from intervening with any illegal crossings. They were told to just sit, and watch it happen, and to mark down how many illegals crossed the border, and then report that number to their superiors at the end of their shift. That's it. On top of that, in their "deployment", they were inundated with DEI and ESG training, telling them that White people bad, women good, non-whites good, patriarchy bad, etc., and all the White guys watched as diversity hires got promoted over them. When their time for reenlistment came up, despite being offered promotions and increase in pay, all of the White guys refused and left the military. The drop in White men joining and reenlisting has gotten so bad that some units are over 60% undermanned, and men who have had constant military service in their family going back hundreds of years, are telling their sons to not enlist and/or get out as quickly as possible.
