1970s wasn't about women getting their own money... it was when no-fault divorce became universal. she could now divorce him, take half his shit, keep him in servitude until he died, and yet she could completely walk away from her familial obligations as a woman.

why would you sign a contract with someone where if they break it, you have to pay them a shitload of money and keep paying them?

no-fault divorce is cancer. and guess (((who))) lobbied for it?

i get you in practice, but legally, no-fault divorce was passed universally by the 70s. no-fault divorce allows someone to break a marriage without proving fault of the other. and when women get paid practically always in divorce, suddenly no-fault divorce is a huge handout for her, incentivizing her to file for divorce.
