For a long time I wanted to create something, to manifest my ideas which others can receive. I wrote a book once, but I wasn't comfortable with it, so decided to can it after it was finished (I made 2 sales though). I think the plot is fine, but today I'd write it differently and better. Then I picked up programming with the goal to create video games at some point. I learned programming while creating a card game, and I think it was fine. Then I worked at a company for multiple years, and after I improved in my coding a lot (from meh to expert), I couldn't bear to even look at my old code, so I abandoned the project. I don't think I would have reached much even if it were finished.
However during a Christmas I started to work on a game, but only in my free time next to a full-time job. There were quite some difficult technical parts in it, but I managed to do it. Last year I worked on it full-time, and continue to do so until I am finished.
I do all of this because I have a fundamental passion. But not only that, I also have the skills required and the opportunity. If successful, a lot of options open up for the future. If moderately successful, that's also good. If it fails, at least I can put it on my resume when applying.
