Double tracks always, sometimes triple with the middle one being used by express trains or freight trains. This is a imported problem, back in the good old days everyone waited in line and nobody would enter before everyone had exited. Even the new year rush which seems to be the case here, people used to behave.
I assume in big cities in Germany they run trains every few minutes, so even a monkey should be able to comprehend that it's not the end of the world to miss this particular train. As for the poor guy trying to get out, he'll get out at the next station and have to take another train back now, couple of minutes wasted there.
Ironically this behavior is never observed in rural areas. Even if people risk having to wait until the next day for the next train. City dwellers can't even wait just a few minutes.
