If one wanted to work offshore, one might as well take a job on an offshore oil rig in the North sea. Not only does it pay better, but you stay there for a few months and work all the time. The oil rig doesn't try to sell you the illusion of freedom. It's a place of work, all commercialized, no third places. Or heck, the canteen would actually be such a place, you can spend time there with your colleges.
