It's personal branding, as it is with most religious practitioners. It's more about "having a team" than anything, and that quality is very prominent in libshit/LGBTP "communities", too.
A lot of this is a side effect of culturally shaming White people who view "White people" as their team. We still yearn for stable solidarity, and some will sacrifice anything to feel that, even their dicks.
