I would argue that whites were flourishing because of their ethnic consciousness. Ie: when the Brits and the French and the Germans etc were fighting with each other, they were distinctly aware of their ethnic identity, and thus, cognizant of what ethno-nationalism should and must look like.

Then WWII happened.
