Ironically, Neitzsche absolutely *despised* Nihilists, precisely because they gave up on life, whereas his entire philosophy was simply "living is good", but most people take his lament of the death of Religion and Philosophy as something he thought was positive, instead of him basically warning the West that if they didnt provide an adequate replacement for Religion and Philosophy (there isnt one, though neitzsche simply believed grugmaxxing would be enough), it would decline into a nihilistic morasse and human progress would effectively halt (which it has).
