As you may know, Spain was the only top 5 European country that didn't have good cars. I've spent my last years before retiring to make Volkswagen buy the cringe SEAT and make it become a quality brand, to make the Spanish proud of their own cars. Now Volkswagen went beyond my dreams and added even a luxury brand Cupra. Even if it's owned by Volkswagen, there is still a raise in nationalism in Spain, because people are proud to own a quality Spanish car. It never happened before.
The purpose of seat was never to be special, it was just to build spanish industry (spain had no industry) and bring reliable cars (fiat was reliable back then) into spain. They were created as a point a to point b vehicle and they served their purpose well.
That's still exactly what seat does in the eyes of 99% of people. It's just a different brand now. But the fiat influences still exist in their older continuing lines like the Ibiza. Almost nobody here owns a cupra. I saw more cupras in England than spain.
