They did. Let's see you fully wipe out an area like that when you're surrounded by lush, unfamiliar rainforest that's constantly trying to kill you. Almost 90% of them got killed, but for the same reason that there's very few pureblood native Americans, Latinos got created.

The Catholics opened their hearts to the natives and foolishly believed they could be converted. Such a missed opportunity to secure the western hemisphere.

1. They're not a majority.

2. The 21.5% of the Mexican population classified as indigenous counts both those full and partially identifying as indigenous.

3. That's entirely unrelated, even if this were true it is not like demographics cannot recover.
