It’s interesting. Every jew who commits pilpul has a quick shoot-from-the-hip retort to the topic at hand. Of course it’s always a lie, but if you keep on the pressure you will eventually dismantle the entire argument and actually get back to the actual topic. This is of course the whole point of pilpul — to exhaust the opponent with minutia rhetoric until the topic becomes too cloudy to continue discussion or make any accomplishment.
