The deeper history of the phenomenon is /n/, which was the original news & politics board on 4chan. /n/ was shut down very early in Obama's first term because moot was a faggot and seeing criticism of his chocolate jeebus made him cry like a little bitch. But the shutdown of course didn't work, all it did was spread the hatred of president nigger to other boards, so moot created /new/ and then shut that down shortly thereafter which lead to the creation of 4chon.net, but 4chon.net ended up siphoning off so much of 4chan's traffic that moot created /pol/ as a means of recovering the valuable page views he was losing…
