I have seen them do this with other things, usually bicycles. They claim it is theirs, therefore it is theirs. And because they were making a scene about you having their possessions then you were the one stealing it so the crowd comes to the aid of the person you stole your own things from. The first to make the accusation is the one who is truthful.
