Awhile ago, Japanese tourists really believed that Paris was this beautiful bastion of European culture. Only to get disappointed so badly they started calling it Paris Syndrome.
The signs were already there, but the brainwashing is really starting to wear off now.
I get "Paris Syndrome" too, only it's with my state capital, and my unrealistic expectations for it is that it'll be clean and safe like it was, oh, 30 years ago.
