I've found that having a daughter and son has taught me more about the male/female dynamic that I learned throughout my entire life up to then.
I started with the "I'll raise them the same" mindset...for about a year. At one year I realized that my daughter was fundamentally different from my son in terms of interest, attitude, and motivation.
He will take initiative and get things accomplished on his own. He doesn't like working under me and constantly talks back when I try to tell him things.
She will never do anything on her own but will help me all day long with whatever I doing. I pretty much have to instruct her constantly, not because she doesn't know what to do, but because she doesn't ever want to risk a mistake.
I can have arguments and debates with my son and he forms his own opinions, but my daughter just agrees with whatever I say, to the point that she'll repeat it to others as though it's the truth.
They're not better or worse, but definitely different, and you'll have a bad time if you try to treat them the same.
