The games were always fan fiction post books, but the old Director on Witcher 3 and original Cyberpunk development was falsely accused of bullying by the new diversity hires. An internal investigation was done and he was cleared but he quit anyways (who could blame him). So CDPR or games journalism claiming that Ciri always being a Witcher was the plan is an outright lie.

The end of the books was Ciri basically ending up as Galahad's grail and musing if a Witcher like person (she can't be a real Witcher for lore reasons) was needed there. So Ciri had the "happy ever after" and a chance to be a "Witcher" before these games were even made as they take place post books.

The game brought her back, which means she would have turned her back on the idea of being a "Witcher", but the logical idea behind it was that it had to be out of a sense of duty as she was the heir and maybe she thought she could do more good in that role or that she owed this world something.

The only ending that made any sense in the game was her as Empress. Otherwise why return at all? If she was going to make a more selfish decision or feel she owed this world nothing, then she never would have left the other worlds and adventures.

Her being the focus is obviously subversion. The people who hijacked the company know that with Ciri they can get people to at least play the game which will be about the patriarchy, Ciri being a lesbian and all things modern politics.

This Rob guy is what he accuses others of being.

Ciri is also incapable of working as the protagonist without taking away her powers. They don't care though because this is about wish fulfillment and replacing and erasing Geralt, not about creating a good narrative.

It's Rey Palpatine and Luke Skywalker all over again. Only a sociopath could relate to Rey because she needs no one, struggles with nothing and is basically there as a deity. She was the mechanic (Chewie), leader (Leia), Knight (Luke), rogue from a humble background who could get out of anything (Han). It made everyone else pointless, which is what these people want. Everything is about Ciri/Rey.

The appeal of Geralt is that he's mainly just a sword. He is forced to be part of things he would rather not be, but he's a sword. He's not a chosen one, he's not royalty, he's a man with a simple job that we can relate to as the reader.

No one can relate to a godlike being which is the entire reason a God would send a son that people could relate to. As Tolkien said to CS Lewis, God is the ultimate story teller because he knows what we need. These people aren't interested in telling a good story they are interested in being your god and telling you what you can and will accept.
