Unfortunately colonization only meant settling lands that were already pretty much empty, like North America and Australia. Everywhere else we just took over the government and taxed the locals. The worst thing we did was enslaving Africans, but we never replaced any native populations and cultures - which is what we're being accused of and what is happening to us now.

And yes Europeans colonizing the entire world would've been the best thing to happen. Imagine another country like USA but in Africa or Asia, with all the land and resources. The prosperity would be unfathomable.
