I find the top picture quite quaint.

But, again, I live in the mediterannean. Scenes like this are common. Especially in the east mediterannean.

you can tell its a like a touristy part (or a mosque) because the city in the background was just concrete blocks with zero effort into them

at least in Italy they actually put some goddamn effort into making their houses pretty (esp when near cultural landmarks/churches) but arabs... arabs put the absolute minimum (either due to cheapness or just fearing that ZOG/ZOG funded sand-nigger jihadists will bomb the area so might as well invest as little as possible)

I think there is a legitimate argument for building concrete blocks in the middle east today and that's because it's more survivable during war and a lot easier and cheaper to replace. Even back then (don't know when this photo was taken. Based off of picture quality, it looks like Hafez era syria) syria still had the omnipresent looming threat of war always there.

But I can say from experience that, yeah this style of architecture is omnipresent in both the European and Middle Eastern parts of the eastern mediterannean. These buildings are all over the place in Greece, Cyprus, and the rest of the Balkans as well. They're even somewhat common as far west as Spain.

They don't bother me very much. Probably just because im used to it. I didn't like it at first but now I'm fine with it. Besides, it's not like syria ever had that much money to begin with, I don't think assad had much budget to make all architecture look neoclassical. They're usually built in areas that don't have much money to spend on anything. Spain has money now, but did not have much when these buildings were built. Greece is broke as fuck. The rest of the balkans are broke. Cyprus is broke. Syria is broke. Italy isn't, hence why Italy doesn't have these.
