Bad dude but Cambodia starving and a fourth of the population dying literally wasnt even his fault. Blame fucking kissinger for that bit. It was a medieval shithole because we completely destroyed it and left it to him lol
The actual litmus test which never happened would be how democratic kampuchea would be if it actually lasted
It turns into more of a political shitshow when you realize that Vietnam and the ussr fucking hated this dude and that China, the UK, and the USA were funding his government in exile
But regardless, the killing fields? His fault. Famine? Not his fault. The evacuation of the cities? Practically a necessity. Forced labor? Necessary evil. Fourth of the population dying? Not his fault. 18 year life expectancy? Not his fault
