lol heebs pick names and words that they don't understand, thinking they sound cool.

A *"Palantir"* is a special object from Tolkien's MIddle Earth lore. I believe their are 7, but the total count may be unknown, I forget.

They were originally used by the Numenorians to keep watch over their empire and communicate between vast distances.

Over time, they were displaced or lost, and their tricks and interpretations forgotten.

By the time we encounter them in Tolkiens LOTR trilogy, they have been repurposed by certain key figures throughout the story. Sauron and Saruman both possess one, as does Denethor, the Steward of Gondor.

However they were used in the past, it's interesting to note that in the LOTR trilogy, EVERYONE who looks into a Palantir draws the WRONG conclusions from the visions it shows.

Saruman already thinks the fight against Sauron is unwinnable, because Sauron has been showing him his armies through the Palantir. He wrongfully joins Sauron.

Denethor see's the same visions and also gives up, thinking there can be no victory against the power risen in the East.

Pippin looks into Sarumans Palantir, after he is defeated, and sees Sauron. Sauron wrongfully believes this is the hobbit who possesses the ring, and that Saruman has captured him.

Aragorn looks into the Palantir before going through the dead pass and also sees Sauron. Sauron now believes (because this is still Sarumans Palantir) that Aragorn now has the ring, causing him to unleash his armies and attack prematurely.
