Three possibilities:
1) Lone wolf vengeance by someone screwed over by UH.
2) Murder by rival corporation.
3) Murder by US government.

NYC is one of the most surveilled cities in the USA, so if they never find the assassin, it was a government job.

The rate of homicides that are solved in NYC is only about 44%. This is going to be the highest priority case probably in the city's history no doubt, but it's not like the NYPD have a stellar track record.
