People don't really clap during movies though, lol. I mean, it's not a live performance. I can only think of a couple of times where people did in my experience, which was during the final Harry Potter movie and Star Wars Ep. 7 (no applause during Ep. 8). But those were highly anticipated films in franchises so deeply ingrained in consumer culture that it's not much of a shock for that to have occurred.

Oh, there was also one time many years ago where I attended the midnight premiere of *The Last Airbender*. Around halfway through that travesty, some guy stood up and walked out, shaking his head. The whole theater clapped for that guy. ( u/TallestSkil, you might find this anecdote amusing, lol)

The US had issued an arrest warrant on him because he played a game of chess in Yugoslavia against Bill Clinton's wishes. He was arrested in Japan because the US revoked his passport and he was held for months there.

I have one time. It was a free screening of a horror movie (House of Wax?) prior to release (everyone in the theatre won their ticket). When Paris Hilton died everyone cheered and clapped, it was pretty funny.

I got two for you.
Lord of the Rings, fellowship of the ring, at the very end when Aragorn chopped off the head of the uruk hai that shot boromir. The theater erupted. This was of course 23 years ago.

And when Captain America picked up Thors hammer in End Game.
