These hardware wallets store the key encrypted, and the key never leaves the device. It's accessed by a pin, enter the wrong pin 3 times and the keys are erased and device resets. Which is excellent if you lose it or some nigger steal it.
To regenerate a key on one of these devices you need your 12/24 word seed. Now here's were the backup scheme comes in. It's 12 or 24 words which you need to store somewhere physically. It must be redundant, i.e backups in several locations, but cannot be found by anyone.
Be creative, think of typical places were people would normally hide cash, but obfuscate the whole thing. Don't make it obvious it's a seed. Write several pages of random stuff were say the n word on every page is part of the seed, then you can have n+3 for each page or whatever mathematical formula you can easily remember. This is sufficient in case a nigger find the text, they'll never know there's a seed hiding in there.
