Why pet owners castrate their pets instead of sterilizing?

I've just learned that castrated pets have health issues, but sterilized pets are healthy as before. So why castrating them instead of sterilizing?

Needlessly inflicting pain and harm to animals is a minor evil, but one moloch still welcomes.
