I used to date some chick whose grandmother was super liberal and her grandfather was very Republican. One day I was hanging out with her family and the grandmother said we need Mexicans because they do the jobs Americans won’t do, I stopped her and said “you’re not finishing that statement, Americans won’t do those jobs if the pay is too low, pay them right and they will work grueling jobs of all kinds”.
Then I reminded her that I had been working in manual labor myself for the last 7 years of my life at that time, and I loved my job, but would’ve hated it if I didn’t earn enough money to afford rent. I told her that agricultural work was mainly done by White Americans since the nation was founded, there were small farms all over the country with decent European Americans doing all the work. I reminded her that Mexicans mainly work in construction, and that construction work is one of the few lines of work out there where an American who doesn’t have a college degree can still earn enough money to provide for his family, and Mexicans pose a threat to construction workers because they have no problem undercutting the wages Americans demand for jobs like that.
She just shut up, then her grandfather changed the subject.

Immigration, among many other things, has taken our future from us. Imagine if the government funded automation efforts instead of labour importation!
