Why did OT God establish his covenant by ordering the genital mutilation of Abraham and his descendants, of all things? Something the jews still do today.
If there really is an explanation for that, then okay, but I've yet to hear a good one from a Christian. And Genesis itself offers no explanation. When I look at that text through the context of the fact that it was thought up and written down by a human being, can you really blame me for thinking it sounds like it came from a very jewish psyche? Given their proclivity for messing with kids' dicks and all that.

I know. I'm asking why did the covenant *ever* take the form of slicing up a child's penis? Sounds messed up to me.
It was so our people would know who to marry and who not to, but it was likely different from what we do today. Josephus says "they hid the circumcision of their genitals so that even when naked they might appear as Greeks". I can't see anyone with modern circumcision doing that even if they wanted to.
That's the best I've got for that one, got any more? I could always share where I hear things like this so you can look for yourself, but the material is very long. It's in audio format thankfully.
