People seem to forget that forgiveness also applies to yourself. I do get irritated at the people who think "turn the other cheek" and similar verses mean to allow your enemy to walk over you though.

The Greek word used in that passage, translated to "hate", can also mean "reject". That passage is about proper prioritization. It doesn't mean to wholly reject your family, but to prioritize God above them.
The message is identical to when your family embraces lies and falsehoods. If you prioritize truth above all else, and your family embraces a lie or falsehood, you should still prioritize, espouse, and act in truth, even if you love your family, even though they reject it.

Look, Himmlerwasright is back. I explained this to you in another thread. How the command to hate one's own must be understood to mean that love of Christ comes first, no matter what. Such hyperbole was not unknown in the ancient world. A literal interpretation of this would result in a host of contradictions, so that's obviously the wrong answer.

Not sure i agree. Most of history Christians were in opposition to jewry. Jew banking monopolies is a product of the 19th century and industrialization. Zionism is only about 150 years old. Throughout most of Christendom it can be shown that Christians were in conflict with jewry and are recorded as being hostile toward them and publicly condemning them in letters and public speeches and in recorded court proceedings.

It was so our people would know who to marry and who not to, but it was likely different from what we do today. Josephus says "they hid the circumcision of their genitals so that even when naked they might appear as Greeks". I can't see anyone with modern circumcision doing that even if they wanted to.
