I actually read Maus, and I don’t remember any testimonies of atrocities in it. Maybe at most claiming it was going on over there without witnessing it. There was a lack of food, but given the conditions, that is exactly what you’d expect. For most of the war they had plenty of food in France, but a lack of fuel for distributing it. Then things got more and more destroyed and fuel even more lacking.
