The American cheese industry, believe it or not, has standards. When a wheel of cheese doesn't meet these standards, they sell it to another company that grinds it up and mixes it 50/50 with whey to sell as "American cheese". When what they make doesn't meet the standards for American cheese, they sell it to another company that grinds it up and adds various additives to sell it as "cheese product". But sometimes they mess up and have to reject a batch, which is then sent to another plant to further adulterate and sell as "cheese food product". When *they* have to reject a batch, Kraft buys it and turns it into orange powder.
Imagine how fat the people who think it's a good idea to buy that stuff by the pound to use a a condiment must be.
