It's not less scary, this is propaganda designed to inform the worldview of the masses. People are supposed to see it and think "oh, I guess this is normal, this is how things have always been."

So every unscary fictional depiction is going to lead to 10 real word examples. And yes people *are* that retarded and sheepish.
