I think you're getting confused with Goebbels. Goebbels did what he did because he and his family was going to fall in the hands of the Bolsheviks, but Himmler was far away from Berlin and was in an area occupied by the Americans/British.
Himmler's wife and daughter survived the war, were captured by the Americans and then released. Went through some "denazification" bullshit but always remained faithful to Heinrich and faithful to National Socialism. His daughter, Gudrun, lived until old age and died in 2018. She's always sided with her father, in fact I also have somewhere a badass quote of her about her father.
As for Heinrich Himmler, he tried to escape under a different identify. He was caught by the British and when we was being searched he used the cyanide to not be taken alive. Real badass.
